Location
Arran is the most accessible of the Scottish Islands and is easily reached by ferry from Ardrossan on the Ayrshire coast or Claonaig on the Kintyre peninsula.
The main ferry service from Ardrossan to Brodick takes 55 minutes and runs several times daily, all year round. This ferry MV Caledonian Isles takes 120 cars and up to 1000 passengers. Booking for cars is advised especially during peak summer months.
Ardrossan is ideally situated for Glasgow International and Prestwick Airports. The budget airline Ryanair has regular flights into Prestwick and Easyjet has direct flights to Glasgow airport.
There is also a direct rail link from Glasgow Central to Ardrossan Harbour to link up with ferry times.
To reach the cottage by car you take the Whiting Bay road from Brodick, via Lamlash. After climbing the hill out of Lamlash we are at the end of a long straight stretch, just after a farm Marked 'Stonefield' and just before the Kingscross turn-off. The farm track is marked 'ardlui' and the cottage is reached by following the fork left behind Ardlui House.
The Wee Cottage is surrounded by nearly 20 acres of our own pasture, an unspoilt location rich in wildlife, safe for children and pets.
It is a mile by bridleway to the Sandbraes beaches and Whiting Bay, 2 miles to Lamlash, and it is near the Ross Road over to Blackwaterfoot and Machrie. Regular buses stop 250 metres from the cottage. Nearby Whiting Bay provides excellent shops, restaurants, a chemist, and a garage.
There is sea fishing at the foot of our hill in Lamlash Bay, safe dog walking, cycling or you can stroll to Kings Cross point with its ruins of a Viking fort.
